LOCAL CLUB RECEIVES AWARD FROM BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF AMERICA FOR OUTSTANDING PROGRAM
DULUTH, MN – The Lincoln Park Branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland has won the prestigious “Outstanding Program” award from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America for their Outdoor Adventures Program. The award was presented during the BGCA Great Plains Area Council meeting in July 2018.
What started as walking trips to the park across the street for one hour a week, has transformed into spending over 10 hours a week in various local parks. The goal of the Outdoor Adventures Program is to show Club members that the outdoors provides a safe space for them to grow their confidence and express themselves. It also reinforces the need for our youth to unplug from technology and explore their creative minds. Many of the members attending the trips didn’t even know that they had the largest Great Lake right outside their own neighborhood.
“Once the local trips started the kids immediately wanted more, this led us to expand the program to additional areas of Duluth and Minnesota. Between this program and collaborating with other organizations we have been able to provide many amazing opportunities to our members that they would not otherwise have. Along with providing opportunity there are many physical, emotional, and social benefits that are proven to come from being active outside.”
